Ferne Welten - Freie Stadt - Dortmund im Mittelalter

	Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Dortmund Diese große Sonderausstellung präsentierte die reiche Vergangenheit der Freien Reichs- und Hansestadt Dortmund. Das Leben im Mittelalter war in seiner ganzen Vielfalt vorgestellt: Die Ausstellung erzählte vom Leben, Arbeiten und Feiern im mittelalterlichen Dortmund. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt lag auf den kulturellen und wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen der Dortmunder Kaufleute im Nord- und Ostseeraum von Brügge über Bergen bis Tallinn und Novgorod. Neben Exponaten aus Dortmunder Museen, Archiven und Kirchen waren auch hochkarätige Leihgaben aus zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Museen zu sehen.
The museum asked for the loan of two fragments of knightly figures from the Van Beuningen Family Collection for this exhibition. According to the curators of the exhibition, both badges show St. Reinoldus, revered since the eleventh century as the patron saint of both the city and the church. This identification as St. Reinoldus seems to be plausible, but specialized research is still necessary, and not just into these figures but the whole group knightly badges. Identification of coats of arms and the possible significance of bearing these heraldic insignias should also be approached with caution.
